Engrained habits

Today is a Monday and it's off to a rough start in terms of my usual schedule. A couple of unexpected things came up that forced me to shift my workout later in the day (rather than being right at the start) which means I have this weird feeling of having accomplished very little even though it's pretty late in the day.

That being said, I can take solace in the fact that the habits I've been trying to create are sticking. I can tell, since it wasn't all of the other work tasks that I need to get done that were gnawing at me. Instead, it was my daily workout and my daily writing session for this personal blog that I wanted to get to more than anything.

I'm a few months into my daily exercise habit and that is definitely engrained, but I'm encouraged that I get the same feeling from this daily writing session now as well, even though it is only about a month old. There's this sense that I have to do these things before anything else, and that not only gives me confidence I will keep these activities going that are important to me, but it also forces me to be more productive in the remaining time in the work day.
